Folk Dress or Top

Inspired by the iconic “Mexican wedding dress”, you can sew this simple folk blouse, tunic or dress in just a day! The options are all yours: make it with or without sleeves, design your own neckline, and add pockets if you’d like. Cal will bring the easily customized pattern, and guide you through sewing your own garment that you can make again and again. This classic style is ripe for embellishment, so you may wish to embroider, appliqué or print on it after it’s made, or incorporate a piece that you’ve already worked.

Please have at least advanced-beginner sewing skills, with a few simple projects under your belt.

This class will be held at the BALMVILLE GRANGE, at 27 Fostertown Road in Balmville, just across the river from Beacon! Major thanks to the Grange for making this big, open space available to us so that we can have plenty of room to social distance. Each student will have a full table to themselves, and there is a lovely field for us to picnic in as well as a covered outdoor space for lunch should there be rain. Masks will be required in the main classroom at all times. A limited amount of tools and machines will be available for single-person use; please let us know if you anticipate needing to borrow anything.
